Pawsaround is a product–service system designed to help dog owners train their pets to socialize and feel comfortable in public spaces. The project emerged after the COVID-19 pandemic, when pet adoption increased significantly and many owners—often first-time pet parents—faced challenges in preparing their dogs for social environments. The project aims to support both dogs and owners through a structured training ecosystem that combines digital tools, physical products, and community-based learning.

What This Project Aims to Solve
  • Help dog owners train and socialize their dogs for public environments

  • Support new pet parents with accessible training guidance and tools

  • Encourage responsible pet ownership and positive dog behavior in shared spaces

  • Build a community platform where owners can learn, share experiences, and support each other

  • Create an integrated product–service system that combines training tools, digital support, and physical environments

OBJECTIVES

OBJECTIVES

From Research to System Design

The project began with understanding the growing challenges of new pet owners after the COVID-19 pandemic, when pet adoption increased significantly and many first-time pet parents struggled to train their dogs for social environments.

To gain deeper insight, multiple research methods were conducted, including secondary research, stakeholder interviews, online questionnaires, and both online and offline observation. These insights were analyzed to identify user goals, behavioral patterns, and key pain points, which informed the development of user segmentation, personas, and user journey maps.

The findings were then synthesized into project requirements that guided the concept development. A morphological chart was used to explore solution possibilities and generate design ideas.

Concepts were further refined through stakeholder interviews, prototype testing, and usability testing, ensuring that the proposed system effectively supports both dogs and owners in the socialization training process.

The Designed Solution

The final outcome is a product–service system that supports dog socialization training through multiple interconnected components:

  • Training & Community Application – a digital platform for guidance, progress tracking, and community interaction

  • Dog Training Set – including a smart leash, posture-detecting smart camera, and dog status badge

  • Dog Training Space – a dedicated environment designed to help dogs gradually adapt to public interactions

Together, these elements create an integrated system that helps dogs build confidence in social situations while supporting owners with guidance, tools, and community support.
